Standards

Viega offers the industry’s most complete line of Zero Lead products. Significant foundry modifications and upgrades have been made at Viega manufacturing facilities to ensure Viega’s proprietary Zero Lead bronze alloys are available to customers.

On January 1, 2010, two separate state laws will go into effect, limiting the amount of lead that can be present in plumbing fittings and fixtures.

  • California’s AB1953 mandates all potable water products, including pipe and plumbing fittings, sold and/or installed in California to be lead-free, effective January 1, 2010.  The term “lead-free” is defined as containing no more than 0.25 percent lead.
  • Vermont’s ACT 193 prohibits the sale of plumbing fixtures whose wetted surfaces contain more than an average of 0.25 percent lead.

Viega Zero Lead products, tested to NSF-61, Annex G, are compliant with various lead-free legislations. Our products will also comply with more stringent standard changes such as the NSF-61, Annex F, which will reduce the amount of extractable lead in potable water products from 15 ppb, to 5 ppb effective July 1, 2012.

The leader in Zero Lead compliance, Viega has offered products that exceed these new standards for more than 20 years.  As more fittings are converted to the new proprietary Zero Lead bronze and Eco Brass®, Viega will be well on the way to offering a 100 percent Zero Lead product line-up that exceeds California and Vermont standards.
